Things to Do in Mexico

Mexico is a popular holiday destination for tourists from around the world. This is because of the fantastic temperatures, interesting history and fantastic attractions that the country offers. If you are planning a vacation then Mexico should surely be on the top of your list.

There is something for everyone in Mexico. Here are just a few ideas that should keep you busy on your trip.

Beaches

Mexico is famous for its golden coast lines and fantastic waves, perfect for anybody who is an accomplished surfer, or anyone who wants to learn while they are there. Alternatively, you can just lay in the sun and relax on Cozumel, an island that has nothing but beaches!

Water Sports

Because of the large amount of beaches that Mexico has, it is easy to see why water sports are one of the most popular attractions for visitors to the country every year. A full range of water activities can be found here on most of the beaches including parasailing, scuba diving, jet skiing and windsurfing.

Nightlife

Another thing that Mexico is famous for is its amazing nightlife and bars. Cancun is an excellent location for enjoying what the night has to offer, or you can get a ticket to one of the exciting beach parties that take place in the city. These parties are ticketed and have a 15,000 capacity – truly a night to remember!

Volcanoes

Mexico is home to the volcanic peaks of Popocatépetl and Nevado de Toluca. These attractions are perfect for anyone who enjoys climbing. As an added bonus you can also go scuba diving in one of the water filled craters to glimpse spectacular natural beauty.

Festivals

The famous Day of the Dead festival happens in November and takes place over two days. This is a unique and memorable experience as local people remember the spirits of dead children on the first day and then dead adults on the next. The festival is both somber and electrifying – something not to be missed.

Spas

Mexico is home to many spas that can provide a holiday maker with some much needed rest and relaxation. The Aztecs used to bathe in some of the countries amazing warm natural springs, which you can still do today. This is an excellent way to rejuvenate your body and mind. One of the best spas to try is Spa Cocoyoc in san Angel.

Heritage and Culture

If you want to experience a rich and different culture while you are on holiday then Mexico will not let you down. From ancient Aztec ruins to fine art and music and dance, there is something to feed anyone’s interests in Mexico. This wonderful country has more World Heritage Sites than any other country in The Americas including the Historic Centre of Mexico City and Historic fortified town of Campeche (Campeche) to name just a few.

Something Different

For an entertaining and unusual holiday break, why not try a Mexican ranch style holiday. Here you can play at being cowboy and still enjoy the comforts of a luxury venue. This is perfect for people who want to experience the Mexican way of life. You are sure to be kept busy if you choose this option!

It is easy to see why Mexico is one of the most popular tourist destinations. There is a multitude of things to do while you are there, and a myriad of beautiful locations for you to explore. If you choose a holiday in Mexico, you will not be disappointed!

Cheap flights to Antigua

Are you planning to make Antigua your next holiday destination? Nowhere else could be better! Named after a church in Spain (Santa Maria La Antigua) by Christopher Columbus, this “ancient” city as the name implies, is an Island whose popularity far exceeds the geographic dimensions of its borders. This explains why cheap flights to Antigua are a popular search.

What are the activities included in your itinerary? Just as a quick check, make sure you have included the following hot spots for Antigua tourists!

Segway Beach Tours

This is one of those little attractions of Antigua. With Segway Tours, you experience the leisure of conquering several miles of beautiful scenery within a few minutes. If your plan is to enjoy every moment of your stay (we know it is!) then Segway Tours is it!

Half Moon Bay

Have you ever wondered at the absolute delight of catching the rays of the sun while watching surfing from a beautiful pink sand beach? Well, it sounds out of this world but that is the kind of experience you are missing by delaying booking a cheap flight to Antigua.

Sea Wolf Diving School

If your only encounter with diving is over the screens, then welcome to a real life experience! The Sea Wolf Diving School offers a wide-range of purpose-centered training. Whether you are a novice or in fact an instructor, the Sea Wolf Training School has a module that will interest you. Welcome on board!

Now, talking about cheap flights to Antigua, it might interest you to look at the following providers.

Trinidad is the largest of over 23 islands which make up the country of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad derives its name from the Spanish word for “Trinity”.

Arawak and Carib Indians were the first to inhabit the island before Columbus arrived on the island and named it for the Holy Trinity. It took almost 100 years before a community was really established in Trinidad after it had been discovered by Christopher Columbus. Sir Walter Raleigh was also one of those to visit the location.

Trinidad was predominantly a Spanish treaty with an influx of French planters in 1783 but in 1797 the British took over Trinidad and negotiated a treaty with the Spanish. Africans were brought to work on the plantations and the island became a full British colony in 1802.

Trinidad became adjoined to Tobago in 1889 to form an administrative ward for the British. It was in 1962 the two islands finally achieved independence and became the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Major Cities/ Towns

The Port of Spain is the capital of Trinidad and Tobago but it is only the third largest city. Chaguanas and San Fernando are first and second in terms of size. The city is also the retail and administrative centre of the island. It is home to two of the largest banks in the Caribbean.

Chaguanas is the largest as well as the fastest growing city in Trinidad and Tobago. It is located about 18 miles from the Port of Spain; it was a minor town in the past until the 1980’s when it started to expand rather rapidly. It is also the birth place of Nobel Prize winner V.S Naipaul.

San Fernando is the second largest city in Trinidad and Tobago. It has been home to a number of prominent citizens of the country including a number of past presidents and a professional PGA golfer as well.

Things to Do

February is the period for the annual Trinidad Carnival; you can frequent the events and enjoy a selection of music and dance from Trinidad and Tobago, including Soca and Calypso. When the party is over there are a number of other things that you can do as well and you can further enjoy the music by visiting a number of clubs in Trinidad’s major cities.

If you’re into watching wildlife, perhaps you can take the time out to view some of the wildlife of the Caribbean. Endangered species of turtle can be seen in protected beach locations coming ashore to lay their eggs. You can learn a lot about turtle and wildlife conservation this way.

If you’re into cruises you can easily partake in one which makes Trinidad one of its stops or its point of departure. A number of outlets offer tours for cruise ship passengers which showcase the best of life in Trinidad.

Yachting is also popular in the waters around the Island. You can easily find yachts for hire or alternatively if you arrive by sea with one of your own, you’ll be welcome in Trinidad.

Weather

The temperatures in Trinidad are tropical and they range from moderate to hot only varying slightly for the rest of the year. Like most other islands in its location, the climate is controlled by the north-eastern tradewinds which regulate temperature in the region of 84 F in the daytime. This temperature later drops to about 72 F at night, Tobago is slightly cooler than Trinidad due to its location with respect to the direction of the tradewinds.

Temperatures rarely exceed the 90 F mark or go below the 70 F mark, so visitors to Trinidad should keep their expectations as well as plans for clothing in line with this temperature range.

Antigua is one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. The full name of the country is Antigua and Barbuda but Antigua happens to be the main island. The Arawaks were the first people to inhabit Antigua; later on the Caribs were to take control of the island.

Christopher Columbus also discovered Antigua in his travels and both the Spanish and French spent a short period of time on the island. An English settlement later came to settle on the island after having left the neighbouring island of St. Kitts sometime in 1632. These people were predominantly farmers and grew varied crops.

When sugar became Antigua’s main crop sometime in 1674, a larger number of labourers were needed to maintain the sugar plantations. It was for this reason that a large number of Africans were brought into the country as was the case in other Caribbean nations at the time.

Major Cities/ Towns

St. Johns is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda as well as its largest city, hosting a residential population of about 24,000 people according to estimates from the year 2000 which in current circumstances may be rather outdated. It hosts the biggest port in Antigua and is the economic nerve centre of the Caribbean island. The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium can also be found in St. Johns and it is equally popular as it hosted the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

English Harbour is a town in the southern part of Antigua and it is host to a number of naval relics including the Nelson’s Dockyard of the Georgian era.

Falmouth is another town in Antigua and it is famous as the location of the first British settlement on the island.

All these towns are quite near the capital and you can count on getting to these locations with a cab fare of less than $50 from the airport. The VC Bird Airport serves both Antigua and Barbuda and is located about eight kilometres to the northeast of St. Johns.

Things to Do

Antigua is more or less one of the major luxury resorts of the Caribbean. To prove the point, a large number of wealthy people the world over are known to have homes on the island. Richard Branson, Oprah Winfrey, Silvio Berlusconi and Giorgio Armani are just a few of the celebrities known to have homes there.

If such celebrities can find lots to do in Antigua, surely excitement shouldn’t be a scarce commodity for most people.

You can enjoy great meals in Antigua by patronizing a number of the major spots such as Calabash or Mama Lolly all in Redcliffe’s Quay in St. Johns, or The Roti King or Harmony Hall as well.

If you want some regular American fast food, you could easily opt for KFC; as they have two outlets in Antigua.

In terms of sightseeing, if you’re the sort interested in Naval history, you might want to start off at Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbour in the southern part of Antigua. It was commissioned by Lord Horatio Nelson as a base for British ships patrolling the West Indies and it is one of the finest examples of its kind still preserved till date.

There is also an annual carnival in St. Johns from the later part of July to early August. If you love Cricket you could always visit the stadium for a match.

Of course we won’t forget to include the excellent shopping opportunities available in the country. For example, 1000 Flowers is St. Johns is an excellent clothing store. A lot of exciting clubs are there that you can visit as well.

Weather

The climate of Antigua is tropical marine and there is little variation in season and in the temperatures. Hurricanes and tropical storms are liable to occur from July to October

Barbados is a popular Caribbean nation located near Saint Vincent & Grenadines and Saint Lucia on its western side and Trinidad and Tobago on its southern side. Barbados derives its name from the old Portuguese word for “bearded ones” however historically it is not clear as to whether this name was given because of the bearded inhabitants of the island, or because of the prominence of the bearded fig-tree on the island. Further speculation has further added to the confusion behind the origins of the name as some have gone further to suggest that the name was given due to the foam that sprayed over the outlying reefs on the island which made them resemble a beard.

Barbados was first inhabited by the Amerindians and after that by the Arawaks, then the Caribs, it was sometime after this period that the Portuguese came to inhabit the island. From the mid-1500 to the 1600’s, the Portuguese were in control of the island until they left it for other locations and by this time it was left uninhabited.

The British were the next set of people to reach Barbados in the 17th century and they met no inhabitants on the island. They held control of the island until 1966. The Barbados of the 17th century is much different than the Barbados of today. The country in the 17th century was overwhelmingly Celtic while by the 19th century it had become overwhelmingly black.

Major Cities/Towns

The main city and the capital of Barbados is Bridgetown. It is also the largest city in Barbados and a major destination for tourists coming to the Caribbean. It is also one of those cities in the Caribbean reputed to be a financial/offshore tax haven. The Sir Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) is the only Airport which provides access to the city. It is also a tourist spot because it is one of the few sites where the supersonic Concorde which has now been retired from service is on display.

Holetown is another important historical town in Barbados, partly because it hosts a lot of firsts in the country. A number of institutions in the country were first established here.

Things to Do

There are plenty of things to do in Barbados and a lot of famous tourist hangouts other than just those in the main cities. Popular activities in Barbados usually have to do with water sports, boating, scuba diving and the like.

Other activities could be had as well as there are various monuments and locations of historical importance which can be visited to get a better insight into the history of Barbados and the Caribbean in particular. Some locations include:

* National Heroes Square

* Parliament Buildings of Barbados

* The Cathedral Church of Saint Michaels and All Angels

* The St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral

* The Jewish Synagogue

* Fountain Garden

* The Pelican Village and Craft Centre

* The Nelson Statue

* The Barbados Museum

* Kensington Oval (site of the 2007 Cricket World Cup final)

* Carlisle Bay Beach

* Cheapside market

* The Tom Adams Financial Complex

* The Frank Collymore Hall of the Performing Arts

* The Cathedral Plaza

* The Red Light District

* The Garrison Savannah and National Historic Area

Weather

Barbados is usually warm and sunny throughout the year. The average temperature during the day is usually in the 85F range. At night you can expect the temperatures to reduce the substantially cooler levels.

Despite the fact that Barbados is mostly sunny, the northeast tradewinds which criss-cross the location, ensure that it does not become unbearably hot for its visitors as well as its inhabitants.

The dry season exists from January through to June; when the rains come they often do so in quick short showers. Tropical rainstorms however, tend to occur in hurricane season which comes in between the months of June to October.
